One Month

One month Christmas stocking photo.

Figuring out how to smile.

Naptime with daddy.
One month has passed already! It is hard to believe how quickly the time has gone by. I don't think I am ready to get back into the swing of things and go back to work already. Gonna be hard to do for sure.
Poor baby Baden has been suffering from a urinary tract infection the last few days. He had been unusually fussy, crying and screaming out more than we had heard him in the entire 3 weeks of his life up to this point. We thought it was colic or reflux, but most likely this is the cause. When I was changing his diaper on Friday, there was blood in his urine. I got him in to the Dr. that afternoon and the Dr. told me he thought it was due to dehydration which causes uric acid crystals to build up and pass through the urine, which in turn cause a pinkish/red tone to the urine. I kept saying that he was extremely fussy and acted as if he was in pain like with an infection. But, the Dr. thought that was unlikely because it is very uncommon in children that young and if they have an infection they want to have a more serious look at his bladder and kidney's to see how they are functioning. He had us collect his urine for testing though, just in case. Sure enough, there was protein and blood in his urine. We got him hooked up with some augmenten and hope it kicks in soon and relieves his symptoms. Every time he pees he screams out in pain. It is so very sad to see! They sent the sample to the outside lab for more cultures to see if it is his kidney's or bladder, which will then determine what course of action to take. So, we will be in for more testing on Monday after we get the culture results back.
Baden is still fussy and not eating as much as usual. We have to sneak the meds in with his milk or he won't swallow it, so I've been pumping and giving him a bottle when he needs to take his meds.
Milestones this month... We have been putting Baden on his stomach for tummy time and he is able to roll over already. He has to have his arms placed by his head so he can push up and roll himself over and it is kind of clumsy, but he is rolling over on his own. We put his arms down by his side to see if he could figure out how to bring them up and then push off to turn over, but I guess that is still a little too advanced for him.
At the doctor's office yesterday he weighed in at a whopping 8 lb. 15 oz. (50th percentile) and he is now 22 inches (75th percentile). He is definitely more active and animated and we are loving him more and more each day.
