My grandma Dorothy celebrated her 90th birthday on Dec. 6. Grandma Dorothy is quite an amazing person. She grew up in Heber City, and lived most of her life there. She graduated from BYU in education and taught 1st grade for over 30 years. Because we grew up in Heber, we also went to the same elementary school that she taught at. I remember seeing her all the time and even after elementary days hearing about her from former students. It has always been very evident that grandma was well respected by those who had her as a teacher. Grandma was a wonderful teacher...and that teaching was not only done in the classroom, but everywhere she went. I clearly remember time spent at her house included reading and math and language skills. She was so great to help us become more educated and prepare us for our educational pursuits in life. Not only has grandma been an amazing teacher, she has been so very active in so many things in her life. She is an avid gardener. Not a day would go by in the spring and summer that she wouldn't be out in her yard digging in the flowers to make the yard beautiful. Due to some health issues, she hasn't been able to do this as much as she would like, but amazingly she still tries. She had been very active with the Shakespearean club and Daughters of Utah Pioneers. She and her friends would often go to plays and enjoy various activities. We got together as a family to celebrate her birthday and had a great time reminiscing about her life and the amazing person she is.
